Following a national recruitment process Maggie MacIsaac has been appointed Chief Executive Designate of the future Integrated Care Board for Hampshire and Isle of Wight.
Integrated Care Boards will formally take on powers in April 2022, subject to the passage of the Health and Care Bill, which is currently at the committee stage of the Parliamentary process. In August this year Lena Samuels was appointed as Chair Designate for the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Integrated Care Board and has since been supporting its development.
The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Integrated Care Board will serve a population of 1.9million people, with an NHS budget of over £3billion and supported by 77,500 health and care staff.
Maggie is a nurse by background and graduate of the NHS management training scheme. She has more than 20 years of Board experience at both local and regional level, working in roles in provider Trusts, health authorities and most recently within clinical commissioning.
She has a proven track record in system reform and improving services. As Chief Officer for North East Hampshire and Farnham Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) from 2011-2019, Maggie led the CCG to achieve an outstanding rating. From 2013 Maggie incrementally took on the leadership of the CCGs across Hampshire, Southampton, the Isle of Wight and Portsmouth, and successfully merged six CCGs into one on 1 April 2021.
Maggie led the NHS response to the COVID-19 pandemic across Hampshire and Isle of Wight and has overseen successful implementation of the vaccination programme, with over 2.7million people across the area vaccinated to date. In the past year Maggie has delivered improvements across the health system resulting in better care for patients, including working alongside NHS Trust colleagues to deliver improved CQC ratings for both hospital and mental health services.

The COVID-19 pandemic has presented us with many challenges, yet it has also provided us with enormous opportunity. Working with our partners across the NHS, public services and the voluntary sector we can now design the health and care system we want, together.

Commenting on her appointment Maggie said;
“I am hugely ambitious for Hampshire and Isle of Wight. We have some fantastic services that deliver excellent care for our patients, however I am all too aware that there are some sections of our communities for whom we must and will do better. I see my appointment as the chance to continue to make improvements, and to work alongside our partners to deliver real change.
Through the strength of our collective partnerships I believe we can deliver the step change that our communities and our staff have told us that they want.”
Integrated Care Systems (ICSs) are new partnerships between the organisations that meet health and care needs across an area, to coordinate services and to plan in a way that improves population health and reduces inequalities between different groups. Integrated Care Systems will be comprised of Integrated Care Boards and a wider Integrated Care Partnership. The Integrated Care Board is the statutory NHS organisation responsible for ensuring that the body meets its statutory duties, including the triple aim duty for all NHS organisations of better health for the wholepopulation, better quality care for all patients and sustainable services for the taxpayer.
Further appointments to the Integrated Care Board will take place over the course of the coming months.
